So we were having
ramen in
Yakuza Ramen (the name has been changed to protect the identity of the individuals involved in this incident). Then I heard this big “Bang!?on the wall: turned out a black homeless guy had sneaked in and grabbed a handful of leftover ramen from the table. Our Japanese ramen chef rushed out from behind the counter and gave him
a kick then a punch to the stomach. I mean, it’s not like he’s just pushing him away or something; he was really using some sort of
kung fu! The homeless was so hurt he could only groan, but still didn’t want to let go of his handful of ramen. So there’s this weird image of a black person crouching down, trying hard to gather ramen from the ground, and a Japanese chef (with his white hat and apron) angrily talking to him in very poor English.
I didn’t really catch what the chef or the guy said. The guy was very much out of himself (either super drunk or mentally-ill) and the chef couldn’t speak English that well. But eventually he dragged the black guy out of the store and told him not to come back again. Two of the customers got really pissed and spit on the ground, swearing not to come back again (“You discriminating pig!?or some sort.) The others were just shocked and tried to get hold of what was going on.
Then I looked through the window and saw our homeless guy walked across the street, talked with two black pedestrians, and got himself into another fight. So maybe he’s a regular in the ramen shop and they just hated him to show up again? Or maybe the chef is really discriminating toward black people? Shall we blame the government? Or shall we blame ourselves for not sparing some change?
Don’t ever mess with the Yakuza.
